Hyun Dekempe (°1981) is a Belgian artist of South Korean descent. Following his participation in the group exhibition SURFACE TENSION, he now presents his first solo exhibition at the gallery.
The exhibition marks a further step in the research he has developed over the past year: exploring how everyday objects — a table, a plate, an ashtray — can tell stories about home, identity, and the place one occupies within a family, a country, or a conversation.
The exhibition brings together both new and earlier works, further developing these themes. Once again, the domestic serves as a setting for underlying tensions and personal histories. At the same time, Dekempe examines what the notion of “home” means to someone who both belongs somewhere and comes from somewhere else.
His work has previously been shown at Streetspace Banger (Kunsthalle Recklinghausen, 2024 – in collaboration with TIK TAK) and in the solo exhibition Almost Home at Space60 (2026). In 2025, he was awarded the Louise Dehem National Painting Prize. More recently, he created a work in public space for The Crystal Ship, one of Europe’s leading festivals for public art.
