Bart cunningly combines existing imagery from art history, images that come from the net, print media and his own archive. He puts worlds together until they spark.
Casual is not this gleaning. Monumentality and the controlled play of light, dark and color make him a plastic storyteller, not of an unambiguous story, but of beautiful, unfathomable riddles. He turns the familiarity and recognizability of the imagery into alienating drama. Perspectives are sharpened, contrasts exploited. These are possible worlds, from a dream phase, or from a heated imagination.
